Ukraine invites an American to run for President
People's Deputy of Ukraine and political consultant of Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko, Ihor Hryniv, put forward to current Governor of Ohio, John Kasich, an unusual proposal about his running for Ukraine's President. To all seeming, J. Kasich accepted the proposal because Hryniv sent a letter to him, confirming that all 'requirements and recommendations' of the new candidate would be fully implemented.
There can be multiple opinions about the decision. In fact, Poroshenko's team opens the country for foreign management, which is automatically affecting Ukraine's political, economic and sovereign rating, reducing it to 'junk' status. But when the country is on the verge of default and, in fact, falling apart, reference to historical experience can really be the life-saving resource for responding to such a catastrophic situation in current Ukraine. The patronage of some powerful country and good democratic governance would help to resolve the economic, political and social crisis in the country.
In general, the invitation of foreigners to participate in the governance of the state was practiced even by ancient peoples at a time when internal strife threatened tribe members because of controversy among heirs or weakness of their local leader. And so they applied to valiant foreigners for help. There are a lot of legends and tales about it. And now it seems Ukrainians have remembered their appeal to Ryurik to gain the throne in Kiev and decided to repeat the successful experience of their ancestors.
There is nothing wrong with it. On the contrary, Ukrainians once again demonstrate to the whole world that their love for the homeland and civilized practicality prevails over illusory superstitions. It is sad that many other countries in need of the same curatorship are unable to swallow their undue pride and make such a wise decision.
